اخیرا یکی از دانشجویان سابق درباره عبارت swept volume سوالی پرسیده بودند. وقتی جواب ایشان را می‌نوشتم، برای اطمینان از صحت پاسخ، به چند کتاب هم  مراجعه کردم. متوجه شدم که در بعضی کتاب‌ها و حتی واژه‌نامه‌های تخصصی فنی، عبارت Cylinder swept volume را به اشتباه «حجم کلی سیلندر» ترجمه کرده یا بیان کرده‌اند که نادرست می‌باشد. برای همین تعریف درست آن را در اینجا می‌نویسم.

Engine/ Cylinder Swept Volume

I found that the term "Cylinder Swept Volume" in some books translated into or written in Farsi has been defined as "cylinder total volume" which is wrong. 

To my knowledge, "Cylinder Swept Volume" is equal to the "cylinder displacement volume" and can be mathematically expressed as:

 V_swept = (pi * d ^ 2 * (2 * r)) / 4

where d is the cylinder diameter and r is the crankshaft radius.
